Cancer Vaccine
K9-ACV
Our veterinarians are seeing some success in both the extension and quality of life of dogs with operable cancerous tumors using an experimental treatment called the “cancer vaccine” (K9-ACV (Canine Autologus Cancer Vaccine))*. The cancer vaccine takes the therapeutic approach of immunotheraphy and is created personally for your pet and incorporated into their cancer treatment plan. The cancer vaccine is a three dose vaccine that is administered by injection by one of our veterinarians every 30 days.
How Does the Cancer Vaccine Work?
The vaccine is made using the tumor removed from your dog, which is sent to a lab consissts of cellular fragments that are obtained from 10 million cells from the tumor removed from your pet. The tumor cells removed from your dog are used as the basis for the vaccine that breaks tolerance to tumor cell antigens and promotes strong anti-tumor immunity.
How is the Cancer Vaccine administered
Your dog will be observed for an hour after the vaccine has been administered and you may observe some inflamation in the injection site or a low feverr over the next 48 hours.
*As the cancer vaccine is an experimental treatment, the safety & efficacy has not been established. The veterinarians as Jefferson Veterinary Hospital have not seen any adverse outcomes from the administration of the cancer vaccine.
